Sports Dinner 2024

We were so pleased to hold our annual Sports Dinner Celebration Evening last Thursday, it's a time for the students' achievements to be celebrated and all the attendees had a fantastic time. The Sports Dinner was held in the Woodlands Suite at Ribby Hall, with a red carpet laid out for a grand entrance and photographs. 

Everybody attended 'dressed to impress', with a strict dress code of no jeans or trainers, it was lovely to see everyone wearing their best outfits. Students were asked to take a seat for the awards part of the celebration, with a long list of certificates, badges, trophies and cups awarded to those who had achieved the highest accolades in PE and extra-curricular activities over the last year. 

There were awards for the individual sports that we run, Player of the Year for each, certificates for those students who have competed in multi-school competitions, including certificates and badges for next years' Sports Captains. We have continued to have great success with extra-curricular clubs, with many students still attending 'This Girl Can', Dance Academy and other sports. 

Those students who have helped at events for PE over the year as Sports Leaders were given Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum Awards for the time they had devoted to this. The Sports Captains and Vice-Captains were announced for the next academic year, and Mr Waller gave out the Trophies for Special Recognition to Sophie in Year 9 (who competes at a very high level within Swimming), the Keith Walwyn Memorial to Renae in Year 9 and the John Cotter Memorial Trophy went to Jess in Year 9, for her high achievement within Golf.

Mr Haydock came forward to make a speech, he wanted to thank Mr Waller for all he has done for PE and Sports over his time as Headteacher. He wished Mr Waller well in his retirement, gave him a gift and the students all stood to applause him. 

Mr Penney took to the microphone to make a speech for Mr Grady, who is leaving Carr Hill after 17 years as a PE teacher and Sports Partnership Leader. He has been a rock and source of strength to staff members, cherished by our students and all the Primary schools who regularly visit. He will be missed and we wish him all the very best as he starts his new challenge as PE Teacher and Director of Football at another school. He was given a gift as he received a standing ovation from the students. 

After something to eat, Mr Haydock and Mr Grady then raffled off some prizes using a lucky dip. All students names were entered into a selector and picked at random, students could pick from an Amazon gift card, footballs and hoodies. We then attempted to take whole year group photos on the dance floor, starting with Year 7 and adding a year group at a time, before the disco started. The students danced the night away, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. There was also a Magic Mirror with props, hats and giant sunglasses. Groups were able to pose 3 times, and then the photos were printed instantly. This caused much laughter and the photos were a great memento of a fantastic evening celebrating our young people.
