LGBTQ+ Support

At Carr Hill High School we understand the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for all our staff and students. Due to this, we are continually demonstrating a commitment to improving the lives of all young people we work with through focused initiatives to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) inclusion.

As a school, we have been working with The Proud Trust towards gaining the Rainbow Flag Award - an award which showcases the steps we have taken as a school to protect and celebrate LGBTQ+ students. We also have a Pride Group in school where the student members of the club take an active role in making the school an inclusive space!

The links on this page provide information and support for students, parents and staff.

Pride Rocks

Pride Rocks is a support and friendship group that meets every Wednesday from 3.20pm - 4pm in Room 2.

Your Mentor Teacher is your first point of contact, however all staff and your Head of Year will be able to support you or signpost you to the relevant support networks.

Mr Waller has received Skilled Teacher training from the Rainbow Flag Award.

School Diversity Week

We celebrated our first School Diversity Week at Carr Hill High School on 20th - 25th June to show our appreciation for the LGBTQ+ community and diversity as a whole! The staff and students helped to organise the week and thanks to this, it was a great success!

The Rainbow Flag Award is a national quality assurance framework for primary schools, secondary schools, SEND schools and colleges. The award focuses on positive LGBT+, (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, plus other related identities), inclusion and visibility. The Rainbow Flag Award encourages a whole organisation approach to LGBT+ inclusion, as well as developing strategies to effectively challenge and combat LGBTphobic bullying.

As a school we have achieved our Inclusive Curriculum, Student Voice and Skilled Teacher awards. We are working towards gaining the full award.
