Places for the Bushcraft Company’s three day outdoor residential are now available to Year 7 students.

The three day trip is a fantastic learning opportunity and is open to everyone in Year 7. The trip takes place in  ‘The Woods’ a camping residential area which The Bushcraft Company own and is located in the heart of Cheshire. The three-day residential course acts as a fantastic step towards the development of leadership skills, demanding resourcefulness, decision-making and practical thinking from students. Each day will be made up of a range of hands-on workshops, offering a chance to really get to grips with life in the outdoors and providing a unique environment in which to learn and interact.

This experience is structured so that activities alternate between group discussions and practical elements, putting the skills taught into immediate use. The students will work in small groups of between ten and fifteen, each of which will be assigned a Bushcraft group leader, allowing every student the opportunity to really contribute to the collaborative effort required. Whilst content is strongly linked to the National Curriculum, the courses offer students the chance to excel away from conventional classroom standards, intending to inspire a positive attitude to learning, as they develop new skill sets in new and exciting surroundings. Students will leave us with a sense of achievement, confident in their ability to live and operate in an outdoor environment, as well as a greater understanding of the British landscape.

Time spent living in the wild offers a fantastic opportunity for students to interact away from the distractions of everyday school life, taking them out of their comfort zones and encouraging both independence and teamwork. By the end of the course, the students will have gained a far better understanding of the natural British landscape and they will leave with a new sense of self-sufficiency and confidence.

Head of Year 7 Mr Penney said: “Following on from the success of last year we are giving this year’s Year 7 the opportunity to experience three days in this unique learning environment. The trip is a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, make new friends and experience new things. I would encourage all Year 7 students to attend as the trip it is unlike any other trip you may go on during your time here.”

Last year’s Year 7 said-

“One of my favourite parts of the trip was the campfire songs as everyone was together. I also enjoyed making survival bracelets which can be used to help people in lots of different ways like if someone got injured you could use the material as a sling. I’ve never done a trip like this before- it was brilliant.”

“I enjoyed sleeping in the shelter I made with my friends. It felt good to be set a challenge and complete it successfully. I wanted to go on the trip because it sounded so much fun and it was.”
