PE Teacher Mr Doughty was selected to represent the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) at this year’s Dallas Cup.

Mr Doughty, who has been refereeing since he was 16 years old and aspires to become a National List Level 1 referee, spent the Easter holidays in Dallas and was a match official at a number of international U19’s games during the Dallas Cup including the opening game.

This is Mr Doughty’s second trip to Dallas having visited back in 2010 as part of the FA Academy, during that time he was training to be a PE teacher and stayed with a host family who organised for him to visit their local school-Lake Highlands Middle School. This time Mr Doughty returned to the school, and stayed with the same host family, but this time he delivered PE lessons and spoke to students about football and the English Premier League. Mr Doughty also visited another local school- Forest Meadow Junior High and spoke to students there about his journey as a match official, football and the English Premier League.

Mr Doughty said: “The Dallas Cup 2019 was no doubt a fantastic experience. I’m very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to come again, this time in a more professional capacity. I’m returning to England an improved match official. This tournament has helped me fine tune my refereeing brand as a calm, composed and assured referee. I will try and implement this into my game in the National League and PL2 and beyond in the future.”

I want to share my experience with students to show them that  if you work hard in everything you do, be it on the sports field or in the classroom, and take advantage of the opportunities given to you can achieve your goals. For any students interested in refereeing please feel free to come and talk to me about the process.”
