Former student Jack has received his Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award which was presented to him by Prince Edward at St James's Palace.

Jack began the Duke of Edinburgh's Scheme whilst studying at Carr Hill and was close to completing his Gold Award with the support of staff when he finished Year 11. Jack, who is currently a sponsored student at Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College, is very grateful to the staff involved and the school as a whole for supporting him in this.

Headteacher Mr Waller said: “We are delighted to hear that Jack has been presented with his Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award. This is a real achievement and the result of a lot of hard work including 12 months completing the volunteering and physical/skills section, six months completing the physical/skills section and a residential trip which takes place in ‘wild country’. Congratulations, Jack.

“The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is highly thought of by colleges and employers alike so it is a great way to stand out from others when applying for competitive places. It is also character building experience and an opportunity to try new things and learn new skills. We have a number of students working towards various levels of the awards currently and have recently opened up the opportunity to begin the Duke of Edinburgh Award with our Year 9 students.”
