Year 10 PE students have been developing their rock climbing skills as part of their GCSE PE course using facilities at West View Leisure Centre this term.

Students are taking part in three training sessions to prepare them for the annual GCSE PE residential to Tower Wood. In previous years students have spent some of the residential trip learning the basics of rock climbing but this year students will be able to get stuck straight in to the activity. As part of their GCSE course students must be assessed on three different sports of their choice and rock climbing can be one of those.

Faculty Leader for PE Mr Haydock said: “The rock climbing sessions are preparing our students for their residential trip later this academic year. Tower Wood is a great outdoor education experience which gives our students the chance to try different sports. This year students can start climbing straight away, with  no need to introduce them to the sport, making the most of our time at Tower Wood.”
