Year 13 Eve, who is an aspiring politician, spent a day at the University College London taking part in InvestIN Education’s Young Politician Programme. The experience was funded by the school to help Eve gain further understating in to the world of politics and what a career in this area might look like.

Eve spent the day with politicians including a former Government Minister, a current MP, a Parliamentary Aide, Lobbyists, and Think Tank representatives. The political work experience day gave students, aged between 15- 18 live experience of life in politics, through coaching sessions with experienced politicians. Eve also had the chance to experience how to handle hostile press, debate with current MPs, write and deliver speeches and formulate policy ideas. Eve was given advice about how to build a career in politics-with advice covering A-level and university choices, and how to get relevant work experience.

Eve said: “Taking part in this programme was great for building my confidence and giving me a real insight in to the world of politics and the sort of things I might be doing on a day to day basis if I was  working in politics. The programme helped me to develop the way I articulate thoughts and viewpoints in to structured arguments and meeting people who have built a success career in politics was inspiring.”

Head of Sixth Form Mrs Coulthard said: “We were delighted to help Eve attend this course. Eve has shown a real passion and interest in the world of politics and has returned from London with more experience and the knowledge she needs to make the next steps towards a career in her chosen field.”
