Year 7 students enjoyed freshly made Challah bread and sang the traditional song  Bim Bam as part of their Shabbat experience.

Shabbat is Judaism’s day of rest and the seventh day of the week, on which Jews remember the biblical creation of the heavens and earth in six days and the Exodus of the Hebrews and look forward to a future Messianic Age. Shabbat is a festive day when Jews exercise their freedom from the regular labours of everyday life. It offers an opportunity to contemplate the spiritual aspects of life and to spend time with family.

RS Teacher Mrs Gould said: “This lesson was an opportunity for our students to experience a traditional religious event. We started the Shabbat by lighting candles, we then sang Bim Bam before breaking and sharing the Challah which was kindly made by three of our students.”
