A group of Year 8 PP students spent the day at an interactive event which is part of Lloyds Banking Group's ReDiscover Project. The event took place at Blackpool sixth and is part of a series of nationwide initiatives which promote digital and tech skills to secondary school students.

The day involved interactive, curriculum aligned and professional presentations based around subject areas such as English, Maths, Business Studies, Music, Art and Media, focusing on how to unlock the digital potential of the subject. This was followed by a team challenge giving students the task of building a digital business. The Carr Hill teams came up with two different companies – Child Travelling Service and Fashion Fix.

Lloyd’s Digital Champions were on hand to offer guidance and mentoring, and a range of local businesses representatives, from the likes of  BAE and Digital Monkey, provided guidance using industry knowledge. The Mayor of Blackpool also attended the event helping to inspire and encourage the students.

PP Mentor Mrs Somers said: “This event was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn more about the digital world which is already a huge industry which will continue to grow. Our students now have a far better understanding of how the digital world works and the vast career options available to them within this sector. The presentation, industry experts and business challenge certainly inspired them and gave them lots to think about in terms of future career aspirations.”
