30 students in Year 9,10 and 11 spent part of their half term break exploring the city of Madrid as part of the school’s modern foreign language trip. Pupils enjoyed five days in the Spanish capital and experienced a walking tour of the city  taking in  Gran Vía, Sol, Corte Inglés with its panoramic views, Primark and its marble staircase and the Retiro.

Students also visited Real Madrid’s ground, Santiago Bernabéu, Ventas Tauro bullring, the medieval city of Toledo, the Prado museum, and Parque Warner theme park. During the evenings students enjoyed mini golf and bowling following their evening meals in a range of local restaurants. Students were encouraged to use the Spanish they had learnt during lessons and successful purchased train tickets from a local station.

MFL Faculty Leader, Mrs Beckett, said: “Students gained a real insight in to the Spanish culture during this trip as they visited some of Madrid’s most famous landmarks but also experienced local culture through restaurants, cafes and train stations. We had a packed itinerary as we wanted to get the most from this trip and give our students the best possible insight into Spanish life. We would like to thank all of the pupils who accompanied us to Madrid. You were all a credit to yourselves and to your families. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and hope you all did too.”

Year 11 Chloe said: “This trip was a good chance to visit somewhere new and help me with my GCSE Spanish course. The best part of the trip was going to a theme park not only was it fun but it also gave us the chance to practice Spanish whilst speaking to others when we were queuing for rides.”

Year  9 Harry said: “I learnt a lot about the culture of Spain during the trip. Things like eating in local restaurants and trying the food has helped me to understand more about life in Spain.”
