Students, and parents/carers of students, who will be joining Carr Hill High School in September 2018 attended the school’s New Parents’ Information Evening last week.

Carr Hill High School runs the event every year as part of its Transition Programme to help new students feel comfortable and prepared ahead of joining the school. During the evening students, parents and carers heard from the Headteacher and had the opportunity to purchased essential items such as their school tie, a calculator and a sketch book. Pupils also met their mentor and the other students who will be in their mentor group.

In addition to this, the evening was an opportunity for guests to pick up information packs whilst mentors talked through everything they will need to know about their first few weeks including role of the mentor, who to contact, absence procedure, rewards and sanctions, planners/homework, first day, lost property, uniform, jewellery, make-up, mobile phones/contacting your child, lockers, medical needs and more.

Year 6 Luke, who will be joining Carr Hill from Strike Lane Primary School, attended the New Parents’ Evening with his family. He said: “I’m looking forward to playing more sport, especially football, and doing the experiments in science.”

Luke’s Strike Lane classmate Aimee also attended the event. She said: “I’ve been coming to watch the school productions for years, because my sister is always in them, and I’m excited about being in them when I’m a student here. I also can’t wait to meet new people and make more friends.”

Freckleton CofE Primary School student Archie said: “This evening has been really helpful and I can’t wait to start school here soon. I want to be an author so doing more English lessons is what I’m looking forward to most.

Thomas, from Ribby with Wrea Primary School, said: “ I think this school is big, friendly and inspiring and I feel fine about starting here in September. I’m looking forward to lunchtimes and using the canteen.”

Aidan, Thomas’ classmate said: “I’m feeling confident about September and want to get involved in all the athletics competitions at Carr Hill High School.”

Assistant Headteacher Mr Johnstone said: “I’m pleased to say that the New Parents’ Evening event was well attended by our next Year 7 cohort. I hope all those who joined us found the evening informative and that the Year 6’s left feeling excited about becoming Carr Hill students in the next few months. For many of the Year 6’s this visit is the latest in a number they have had over the last few months and even years. We know that frequently spending time at their new school actively helps young people manage the transition from primary to secondary school. We understand that there is a lot of information to take in but we hope with every visit our new students feel more confident and reassured about this next chapter in their lives.”

The evening is followed by the students first full experience day on Tuesday 3rd July.
