200 pupils from 10 local primary schools took part in the athletics competition which was run as part of the school’s Primary School Sports Partnership programme.

Carr Hill has been working with local primary schools as part of the partnership for a number of years, ensuring local Key Stage 2 students are provided with high quality sporting competitions and opportunities.

The Quadkids event allowed pupils, who competed in Year 3/4 teams and Year 5/6 teams, to experience a range of track and field events. After a full day of competing Newton Bluecoats were crowned champions of the Year 3/4 teams and Ribby with Wrea were crowned champions of the Year 5/6 teams.  Newton Bluecoats will now progress to the Lancashire School Games.

Second place in the Year 3/4 teams went to Ribby with Wrea and third place went to St Josephs. The Year 5/6 runners up were Newton Bluecoats with St Michaels coming in third place. Pupils also received certificates for the best performances in individual games.

PE Teacher and Sports Partnership Lead Mr Doughty said: “The first Quadkids Athletics competition was a huge success. Every primary school pupil who took part should be very proud of themselves; they all showed great sportsmanship and there were some impressive individual and group performances. I wish Newton Bluecoats the best of luck at the Lancashire School games and look forward to hosting the Quadkids competition again next year.”

Carr Hill’s Primary School Partnership involves hosting, and planning, a range of different sporting events, most of which are held at the school to give younger students a taste of high school life. The events are delivered by Mr Doughty, with the help of Carr Hill Sports’ Leaders who are all excellent role models to younger pupils. The Sports’ Leaders are students from Year 8 to Year 13.

Mr Doughty added: “This competition and the many other events Carr Hill deliver would not be possible without the help of our school’s Sports’ Leaders. I would like to thank them and, Mr Cadwallader and his Sports Leaders from Cardinal Allen High School, for helping me to run this event.”
