The search for next year’s Sports Council has begun. Students interested in representing their peers and ensuring student ideas are acted upon by the school’s PE department should apply for one of the positions as a Student Sports Leader.

There are positions available in all year groups and Student Sports Leaders will be appointed for a 12-month term. Students are selected through an application and interview process.  The Sports Captains and Vice-Sports Captains need to have qualities that will enable them to fulfil the demands of their roles. A Student Sports Leader will: Be able to use their initiative; Show commitment to the school, their year group and their leadership role; Be reliable and have good time management skills; Demonstrate good organisation skills (personal and the ability to work in teams); Be determined and persevere to achieve success; Show humility (the role represents the school, but at the same time it represents a service to the other students); Act with responsibility; Demonstrate leadership.

This year’s Sports Council have been responsible for: Re-introducing the College Varsity League (dodgeball, football, netball, rounders); Increasing the sporting opportunities in the Sixth Form (5-a-side football, dodgeball, netball); Purchasing ‘Sports Leaders’ t-shirts and jumpers (to be worn on all Sports Partnership Events); Purchasing new netball dresses and football shirts (for all Years); Purchasing new PE signage in and around the PE department (including an honours board); completely changing the PE kit- to be released in early July.

PE Teacher Mr Doughty said: “Being a part of the Sports Council gives you a real opportunity to shape the way PE and sport is delivered not only within school but also in the wider community via our sports partnership events. As you can see from the achievements of this year’s Sports Council, there are many ways you can help to continue to improve our PE department. We as staff value your input and want to hear your views and opinions so that we can continue to offer our students the best sporting opportunities around.”

If you wish to be considered for a Student Sports Leadership role, you must submit a completed application form to Mr Doughty.  Applicants who have submitted an application will be shortlisted and invited to interview. Appointments will be announced at The Sportsman’s Dinner on 12th July. The deadline for applications is Friday 22nd June 2018. The application form can be found on the school’s website or see Mr Doughty.
