Carr Hill High School has teamed up with two other local high schools to launch an initiative designed to encourage reading and creative writing amongst students.
Year 7 students have been invited to enter a short story competition. Pupils can write their story based on any topic they wish and it should be no longer than 500 words. To add an extra element to the challenge, students need to include five random words which have been given out on a word mat.
Year 7’s will compete with their peers from Lytham St Annes and St Bedes High Schools. Five winners from each school will be selected and the final 15 will receive prizes and have their stories published on their school’s website.
Assistant Headteacher Mr Morton said: “We are pleased to launch the 'We are Reading Challenge' this week. It’s a fantastic initiative which will help our students develop their reading and writing abilities. I hope many of our Year 7’s will take the opportunity to enter this competition and I look forward to reading their short stories.”
Stories must be submitted through Show my Homework by Monday 18th June. If students require any further information they should speak to Mr Morton or Miss Gardner.
