For the first time in the history of girls’ football at Carr Hill we had a not one but two sets of twins playing in an inter school tournament.

Identical twins Courtney and Rhianna and Katy and Madelaine all took to the pitch to represent Carr Hill at the EFL Girls’ Cup which was organised by the PNE Community Trust. All 4 girls have shown a recent aptitude for the sport having joined the football club and and taken part in various games.

Two teams, each made up of Carr Hill’s best female footballers from Year 7 and 8, spent the afternoon battling it out against 18 other local teams.

Team 1 made it to the semi-final and narrowly lost 2-1 to Penwortham Priory, whilst Team 2, who represented the school with pride, were knocked out at the group stage.

Goal scorers for the competition were: Cloe (4), Lois (2), Paige, Emma. Team 1’s player of the tournament was Cloe and Team 2’s was Maddy.

Sixth Form Sports Vice-Captain, and Year 13 student Emily was there to help on the day and said, “Girls’ football at Carr hill has developed massively over recent years, largely down to Mr Doughty’s support and Mel Brown, Inclusion Manager, from PNE FC Community Trust coming into school to deliver training sessions and help us develop our skills. It’s great to see that we’re now at the stage that we’re competing in local tournaments and doing really well”

Miss Brown said, “The day was a fantastic event with 20 teams attending from 16 schools. I was overwhelmed by the uptake which shows 4 more teams competing than last year. Having over 160 girls participating in competitive football was brilliant. In reality the majority of these girls don’t have access to organised football, never mind competition so the outcomes from the tournament were inspiring. Not only physically but the psychological and social outcomes will have been huge. To mention one I could see the girls discovering new friends at their own school and meeting new players from other schools. There was some fantastic talent on show from all schools and certainly Carr Hill. I have worked with these girls before and they represented PNE at the last tournament we had with the local clubs and there is some real potential stars in the squad. Not only that, but both teams represented the school with pride and passion. A real credit to themselves, Mr Doughty and Carr Hill”.
