PE staff at Carr Hill High School have been recognised for delivering one of the best school sporting offers in the county. After being named secondary school of the year at the Fylde Sports Awards, Carr Hill High School automatically went through to the next level of the awards where they were named amongst the best schools in Lancashire.

Carr Hill received praise for the school’s Sporting Elite Academies, the Sports Leader programme (which involves volunteering at a host of sporting events organised for local primary schools), the Young Leaders Award (students who completed this most recently have become qualified Boccia coaches) and setting up a satellite club for the non-traditional sport, Handball. The school has also worked hard to promote girls football over the last two years with PNE coaches offering sessions every week.

The school also encourages students to fundraise through sport. In the last twelve months alone students have completed the Sport Relief Mile (raising over £4,000) and a charity swimarathon (raising over £700) for the Lytham St Annes Lions Club.

Faculty Leader for PE, Mr Haydock, said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised, first at the Fylde awards and then the Lancashire awards. As a team we are always looking for new ways to get students involved in sport- whether that is through participation, volunteering or fundraising. We are proud to offer a wide variety of sports at Carr Hill from the traditional to the less well known and we work hard to make sport accessible and enjoyable for all.”

PE Teacher and Sports Partnership and Acadmies Officer, Mr Doughty said: “We've been busy promoting the PE department in Wyre and Fylde this year and to receive the recognition is brilliant for us and the school. By winning the local award, we were invited to the Lancashire Sports Awards 2016. The ceremony was fantastic and we were all delighted to receive the Highly Commended award for Secondary School of the Year. We've been working closely with the Lancashire Sport Partnership to create new and exciting opportunities for students- for example the handball club and delivering boccia in our local specialist school, Pear Tree. In addition to this we had a superb year fundraising- making over £4,000 for Sport Relief and other local charities. To receive recognition on a county level is outstanding and the PE department is proud, and committed to continuing our work developing the physical skills, knowledge and understanding of the next generation!”
