This week more than 20 students from Year 12 met with professionals from the food and grocery industry to learn more about the roles available within the sector.

This was the second workshop designed to help enhance student employability so they feel ready for the world of work once they leave the sixth form. Both sessions had a section which focused on careers in the Food and Grocery industry where students got to meet volunteers and find out about a range of roles. The workshop on the 18th of October focused on CV and Cover Letter writing and the workshop on the 8th of November focused on 'The Hidden Job Market' and networking.

Each session was designed to develop student employability- building confidence and enhancing communication and decision making skills. This particular session also aimed to increase knowledge of the food and grocery industry (which contributes to one in seven jobs in the UK). Representatives who came in to speak to students, three of which were former Carr Hill students, working for organisations including Fox’s Biscuits, the Co-operative Group and Asda.

Carr Hill’s Personal Development Leader, Mr Beale, said: “We want our students to have the best opportunities to gain employment in their chosen field which is why we are working now to equip them with the skills they’ll need in the future. Students have found the workshops of great benefit and I would like to thank all the proffessionals who have given up their time to make the workshops possible."
