A group of Year 9 students spent some of their half term break in Paris as part of the Maths faculty’s extra- curricular offer.

The group of over 40 students spent the trip, which involved staying three nights in the city, visiting the Montparnasse tower, the La Vilette Maths expedition and Pei’s Pyramid at the Louvre. The sights chosen on the trip enabled students to see the famous city through the eyes of a mathematician. The Montparnasse tower gave students the chance to experience panoramic views of Paris, whilst a stop at the Peri’s Pyramid at the Louvre showed pupils how the pyramid connects the vast wings of the museum to one central location. The visit to the La Vilette Maths expedition helped to show students that maths interlinks with so many different topics and is used across a number of mediums. The final day of the trip was spent at Disneyland Paris

Maths teacher, Mr Johnson, was one of the staff members who went on the trip. He said: “The students had a great time and enjoyed the experience. We put the trip together so that pupils could see how maths is applied across a range of platforms and each activity was design to show how important maths is in everyday life. The students were a credit to the school and really took the opportunity to learn in a different environment.”
