Coaches from Preston North End spent the day at Carr Hill running training sessions for female students.

The coaches took over PE lessons throughout the day and encouraged the girls to take part in drills, skill development and mini matches. At the end of each session pupils were given details about the ways in which they can get involved in football in the local area.

At lunchtime students were also invited to meet Liverpool Ladies FC goalkeeper Danielle Gibbons. Danielle, who has represented England at the Under 19’s level, took part in a penalty shootout and chatted to pupils whilst she signed autographs.

Keen footballer and Carr Hill Sports Captain Year 13 Jess was involved in the day. She said: “At the start of the each lesson some of the girls had some reservations about playing football but by the end of each session they were all asking where they could sign up and how they could play more football.

“It was great to meet Danielle too because she has done so well in her career so far and is someone we can all look up to.”

PE teacher Mrs Carroll said: “This event was a huge success and our students enjoyed the opportunity to take part in training sessions with the PNE coaches and meet Danielle. We thank everyone involved for a great day. If any of our students would like any further information about girls football in the area please come and see me for more details.”
