448 students can call themselves World Record holders as they have taken part in the World’s Largest Reading lesson.

Carr Hill was one of 75 schools from across the UK to rise to the challenge and smash the current record of 3,509 participants

The World Record attempt was organised by National Book Day and was part of a wider initiative to encourage young people to read. The attempt took 30 minutes and during that time students sat in their mentor groups reading a book of their choice. The pupils also watched a short clip of JK Rowling reading from Harry Potter as part of the lesson.

English teacher Ms Fry said: “I can’t believe our students are Guinness World Record holders- what an  exciting and amazing achievement! I’m so pleased so many of our students choose to get involved; the attempt has really brought the school community together. Congratulations to all the pupils who were a part of this.”
