A group of students spent the day at the top university where they had the opportunity to enhance their understanding of Business and Enterprise.

The pupils worked as part of a team to create and pitch a product using action planning skills and good communication and learnt to respond to and use problem-solving techniques . This gave the students the chance to recognise the skills and qualities they have, and how these can be used to their advantage in certain jobs. The trip also included a look at student accommodation and the chance to ask current pupils about University life.

The visit was organised for Pupil Premium students and was designed to inspire pupils to develop enterprising skills, attitudes and behaviours. Pupil Premium Mentor Mrs Somers said: “ The pupils found the visit very insightful and I think they learnt a lot about the skills they have and the sort of industries they might be suited to working in. Some of the students have not considered University as a future aspiration but the trip definitely enabled them to see the benefits of this route.”

The Pupil Premium is the name of the fund given directly to schools to support students who are in receipt of Free School Meals , or who have been registered within the last 6 years. The children of Armed  Forces families and young people who are in care are also eligible for Pupil Premium funding. These funds are in addition to the main school budget and are allocated on the basis of the number of students who qualify for the Pupil Premium.
