Year 9 student Ethan set a new record in the Long Jump, 300 metres, and as part of a team in the relay, representing Carr Hill High School at the Fylde Coast Athletics Championships.

Ethan, who is a member of the school’s athletics team, the Preston Harriers and the Sale Harriers, only started competing after his PE teacher Mr Penney told him about his natural ability was.  In just 18 months Ethan has risen through the ranks and is currently 1st in the UK for the Decathlon, 9th in the UK in the 400 metres and 36th in the country for the long jump and the 200 meters- in the Under 15s category.

Ethan, who regularly competes at county level representing Lancashire, hopes to go on to become an Olympic decathlon athlete taking part in the 2020 games. In the immediate future, Ethan has his sights set on the English Schools Combined Events Competition.

Ethan said: “I did a bit of running in primary school but I never considered becoming an athlete and competing until Mr Penney told me I could do really well if I trained and joined clubs. Since then I’ve competed all over the country.”
