Current Year 6 students, who will join Carr Hill High School as Year 7's in September 2016, spent the evening meeting their College Leader, Mentor and peers. Pupils, who were joined by their families, also had the chance to pick up their college ties, stationery and other secondary school essentials at New Parents’ Evening. The evening was attended by over 200 pupils.

Assistant Headteacher, Ms McKeon, said: “It is normal to feel apprehensive about moving from primary to secondary school so New Parents’ Evening is a great way to settle any last minute nerves. By this point in the year most new students will have been to the school on at least one occasion and are likely to have taken part in a number of sporting tournaments organised and hosted by Carr Hill High School. Pupils will also visit the school next month for an Experience Day. All of the visits and activities are designed help new students look forward to this new chapter in their education."

Future Poseidon pupil and Year 6 Oliver from St Michael’s Primary School said: “I was nervous but now I’m here I feel calmer because I’ve met the other people who will be in my mentor group.”

Harry, who will be joining PO4 in September, looked around a number of schools before choosing and has come from a school outside of the Carr Hill’s usual catchment area. He said: “I looked at lots of schools but Carr Hill felt the nicest and the people were friendly.”

Harry’s Dad, Mr Clement, said: “We wanted Harry to make his own decision about his secondary school education. The school comes across as very community focused and I’m sure Harry will enjoy his time here.”

Charlee, who will start in September as a member of Minerva College, said: “I’m excited because I want to see what secondary school will be like and try new things like dance and drama.”

Future Apollo student Esme said: “I’m most looking forward to making more friends. Two of my best friends are in Apollo already but I know I’ll meet lots more people as well.”

Year Y8 Toby and Year 7 Rogan, volunteered to help at the event and spent the evening speaking to new students. Toby said: "The Year 6 pupils have asked us lots of questions about the school day and what it is like here. We've been explaining that there are always other students around to help and that you can find your way around easily after a little bit of time."

Ms McKeon added: “I hope students, parents and carers found the evening beneficial and had the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about the school. If any parents and carers would like to organise a further visit to the school or speak to their child’s College Leader please do not hesitate to get in contact. We look forward to welcoming all new Year 7s in September.”
