Carr Hill High School & Sixth Form Centre will be hosting an inspiring evening of Fine Art and Photography. This is an exclusive event to celebrate A Level Art and Photography students’ success this year in the form of a ‘Private View’.

The event will take place on Friday 15th July from 6.00 pm till 8.00 pm and the purpose of the evening is to showcase the talent of our students and give them their first taste of being part of a real exhibition where their work can be sold to the public. This year over 20 students will have their work showcased.

The whole event has been planned by the students who are exhibiting with the support of their teachers. The students have been very involved in the evening and have decided what work they would like to exhibit and what work they would like to sell. This is the first opportunity that our students have to experience and gain a vital understanding of how Art functions in the real world-they are designated their own exhibition space which they fill with their choice of work.

The marketing of the event is created using students own Art/Photography work. Students are involved in the designing and promotion of the event and help to promote via social media, distribution of flyers and help from family and friends.

Art and Photography teacher Miss Wignall said: “This event provides a platform for students to experience a sense of being ‘a working artist’ in a safe secure environment. Students enjoy the experience of showcasing their work and it is extremely beneficial for pupils to receive praise from someone other than their class teacher. Frequently, students receive requests for private commissions as well as selling prints of their artwork on the evening and selling their own artwork creates a sense of achievement and inspires them to continue to develop as Artists.

“Talking to members of the public who they may have never met before also encourages students’ communication and social skills which we feel is extremely important in today’s digital era.  By selling their work the students are also helping to make the Private View event possible for the next generation of Carr Hill artists. The students appreciate the support of the pupils who have exhibited before them for making their Private View possible and are keen to give those in lower years the same opportunities.”

In addition to the wonderful Art and Photography work on display there will be entertainment, complementary drinks and appetisers. A limited amount of exclusive Art and Photography work will be on sale during the evening. So guests are advised to arrive promptly to avoid disappointment. Entry is free.
