Year 9 students have picked up the results of their pre public exams.

Year 9 pupils were the first year group to sit their exams in the sports dome giving them the opportunity to experience external exam conditions. This scenario provides an invaluable realistic practice for our pupils ahead of their GCSEs.

The grades were also given out in the new 9-1 grading system with a number of students already working at grade 8s (the equivalent of an A*) and grade 7s (the equivalent of an A). The changes from letters to numbers will take place from 2017 for English and Maths and for all other new GCSEs the changes will come in from 2018 and 2019.

Lydia, who received an impressive one 8 grade, three 7 grades, three 6 grades, four 5 grades, one 4 grades and one 3 grade, said: “My results have shown me that my revision techniques work. I’m pleased with History (grade 7) in particular as I thought the exam was tough.”

Fellow student Ellie achieved equally as well with one 8 grade, four 6 grades, four 5 grades, two 4 grades and one 3 grade. Ellie said: “Sitting the exams in the sports dome was better than sitting them in a classroom as it was quiet and the exams seemed more real.”

Assistant Headteacher Ms Hilton- Peet said: “Students performed well across all subjects. Holding the exams in the sports dome gave our pupils the chance to experience external exam conditions. The pre public exams prove to be a real learning curve for our students in many ways. They learn the important of preparation, discover the revision techniques which work best for them and how to manage their time effectively under pressure. Starting to develop these skills at this stage is a great advantage for them.”
