Towards the end of the Spring Term and over the Easter holidays a number of areas across the school have undergone a transformation.

Students heading for the gymnasium will notice a big difference as they enter the PE Department. The atrium glass now boasts vinyl artwork depicting the sports on offer at Carr Hill. Whilst inside there is now a ‘hall of fame’ which will be updated every year to include the Academy Captains, Sports Day Champions, Sports Personality of the Year and more.  Large glass framed artwork representing each of the academies can now be found along the staircase whilst an inspirational portrait of Olympic athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill CBE can be found outside the PE Office.

PE teacher and Academies Officer Mr Doughty said: “The changes made to the PE Department have transformed the area and provided our students with a space that celebrates their success, with the ‘hall of fame’, and also provides inspiration with the inclusion of the portrait of top British Olympic athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill CBE.”

Elsewhere, Sixth Form students are now enjoying the use of their new look Common Room. The room, which has capacity for over 200 people, is designed to provide students with the ideal study/social area. Students have been provided with new sofas for relaxing and 'high tables' which work perfectly as study stations. The Sixth Form has also invested in new tables and chairs and Sixth Form artwork is now on display throughout the room.

Post 16 Manager, Miss Stott, said: “The common room is a huge part of life as a Sixth Form student at Carr Hill and we feel that it is important that our students have somewhere modern, functional and welcoming to spend their time. The area is dual purpose for study and socialising and we believe the changes we have made will really benefit our students and give them an area within school, just for them, which they can be proud of.”

Changes are also visible outside with the addition of the new wooden canopy. The sheltered area features a wrap-around bench and is designed to offer students somewhere socialise during breaks and lunch.
