A group of Carr Hill High School students have participated in a regional orchestral day as part of the National Orchestra for All's Modulo programme.

Pupils, who were join by students from a number of other North West schools, spent time working on performing an arrangement of Dvorak's New World Symphony. Different groups of students focused on individual sections of the piece and then came together to form the whole orchestra. In addition to playing instruments, the students also tried their hand at some composition work with Year 8 students Amy, Max and Jess going on to conduct a small ensemble. At the end of the day the students performed of the first two movements of the piece, with the second section being completed during another workshop.

Music teacher Miss Dawson said: “This event was an excellent opportunity for some of our most musically gifted students to develop their skills further and be a part of a larger regional initiative. The pupils are already looking forward to the National orchestral day at Alexandra Palace in London in July where they will perform the full arrangement of the New World Symphony.”
