Report by Student Sporting Elite Media Officer, Jack.

Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre’s annual Gym and Dance Display took place on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th February 2016. After last year’s phenomenal event, was it possible to beat it?

After months of auditions and rehearsals it was now time for the Gym and Dance Display to start. The first performance of the night was from the Dance Academy members who performed to the well-known song  ‘Sax!’ After an electrifying start to the night, performances from students across all years took place. Dances entitled:  ‘Hands of Time,’ ‘Dancing Fever,’ ‘Ailey Tribute,’ ‘A-Level Choreography,’ ‘A Dance with a Pointe,’ ‘GCSE Solo,’ ‘Is Your Joke Funny Now?’ ‘Tremors,’ ‘I Miss You’ and ‘People’ were showcased.

Ending the first half of the show was the Dance Academy’s ‘Turn to Stone,’ which was performed at the Wyre and Fylde Dance Festival in November 2015 at the Winter Gardens. The Dance Academy danced to Sia’s ‘Alive.’ It was a performance which was amazingly choreographed by Dance Academy Assistant Director, Amy.

The second half of the event started with the highly anticipated Staff Dance which promised some funny moments throughout! ! Students and staff where given a chance to see the dance at Friday lunchtime  and the whole hall was packed. Some of the staff included; Mr Gillies, Miss Webster, Mr Gally, Miss O’Connor, Mr Napier, Mrs Waldron, Miss Dawson, Mr Doughty and Miss Stott. It was an amazing performance and my favourite part of the dance was the last song in which all the staff danced to American sitcom theme song, Friends. The dance was choreographed by Dance Academy members, Amy, Maiya and Chloe. Their second performance took place on the second night of the Gym and Dance Display. We are hoping for a third performance soon.

Following the Staff Dance  performances under the names of ‘Car Wash,’ ‘Eastern Dreams,’ ‘Victimisation,’ ‘Rosas Danst Rosas,’ ‘A-Level Choreography,’ ‘Jellicle Cats,’ ‘Jersey Boys Medley,’ ‘GCSE Solo,’ ‘Friendship,’ ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Liam Ellis.’ Before the show’s finale was a performance called ‘Reflection,’ which was the Dance Academy’s final performance of the night. This performance is really special to the academy members because it was their last time performing as a group and what an amazing way to end their time as Academy members! Following ‘Reflection’ was the final performance titled, ‘Finale.’

Year 9 student, Sofie, who was a part of the performances of ‘I Miss You’ and ‘Jersey Boys Medley’, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Gym and Dance Display. Furthermore, I enjoyed being taught the choreography and performing it to the audience.”

This year’s Gym and Dance Display had a lot of great talent from various years and it shows how diverse the talent really is! Well done to all students who were involved. Thank you to Miss O’Connor for all the time and effort that went into putting the Gym and Dance Display together.

All the videos are available to watch on the school's facebook page.
