A group of Year 8 students have created a fridge which can tell users when a product is out of date or when they are running low on a certain item. The project is part of the school’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities and the final design secured the award for the Best Business Case category at the Cisco Little Big Awards.

The students were challenged to come up with an everyday item which could be connected to the internet to show judges at the competition how life could be made easier by connecting everyday things. The students entered the North West Regional Finals which took place on Wednesday 24th February, having worked on the project for the last seven weeks. After the students came up with their initial idea they spent time creating a prototype, deciding on costings, building codes  and preparing their presentation for the regional final.

The project has been support by two STEM ambassadors, parent Chris Short and Molly Graham, who is a former student now working at BAE Systems.
