Staff at Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre were able to arrange for the Year 11 students to attend, despite the event being for Post 16 students. This was due to the strong links the Sixth Form has built up with the hospital. This is just one of many professional relationships Sixth Form staff have developed to enable students to find out more about the career paths they may be interested in pursuing.

Carr Hill pupils Sarah, Beth and Fraser, who are all keen to study medicine at university, were given the opportunity to meet hospital staff, junior doctors and medical students. They also had the chance to take part in PBL (problem based learning)  challenges and attended workshops which covered topics such as CPR, Patient Care and much more. All of which proved to be an invaluable experience for the students.

Year 11 Sarah said: “It was amazing to have the opportunity to attend this event especially as it was for college and sixth form students. Getting to go this year means we have gained extra experience and shows how interested and keen we are to study medicine.”

Assistant Headteacher Mr Napier said: “This opportunity is just one of many available to our students before and during their time at Carr Hill Sixth Form. As a Sixth Form we have strong links with a variety  of employers covering many sectors. and these links are built for the benefit of our students. As a smaller education provider we are able to get to know every one of our students and help them to make their ambitions a reality. We work with each pupil individually and ensure that they have every opportunity possible to further their learning experience.
