A group of Year 7 students and their parents have taken part in a family cooking club where they have created a range of simple, quick and nutritious meals.

The club is part of the school's Pupil Premium offer and those taking part made sausage casserole and mash, tomato and cheese pasta bake, chicken curry with rice and spaghetti bolognese. The club ran as part of a trial and proved incredibly popular with students and parents alike.

Every week those taking part focused on a different recipe and once they had created their delicious meal they were able to take it home to enjoy with the rest of the family.

The course ran over four weeks and helped those involved develop confidence in the kitchen and learn to cook new meals. It was also an opportunity to spend quality time with family and socialise with other students and parents/carers.

A parent said: “It was good to spend time together as a family. I liked the interaction the activities provided.”

A student said: “I’ve learnt how to cook properly and how to use fresh food in meals.”

The Pupil Premium is the name of the fund given directly to schools to support students who are in receipt of Free School Meals , or who have been registered within the last 6 years. The children of Armed  Forces families and young people who are in care are also eligible for Pupil Premium funding. These funds are in addition to the main school budget and are allocated on the basis of the number of students who qualify for the Pupil Premium.
