The session was delivered by qualified instructors and the students worked in pairs throughout before being assessed at the end of the day. The pupils were scored out of 10 and the grades they received can make up 12.5% of their overall GCSE grade.

PE teacher Mrs Carroll organised the activity. She said: “As part of the GCSE course students must complete an assessment in four sports. They have the option of choosing Jui jitsu as one of those four sports. However, it’s not just about contributing to the GCSE course as there are other benefits such as teaching self-defence skills and building self-confidence. The course was a great success and something the students really enjoyed.”
