Both guest speakers are admissions tutors and spoke about their respective universities as well as the process of applying and what leading Russell Group universities look for in applicants. The speakers also explained how Post 16 choices impact upon university options, helping students to think more carefully about ensuring they take appropriate A Levels such as facilitating subjects.

In addition to the organised talks the students also took part in teambuilding exercises including  canoeing, climbing and the zip wire. The day finished with a campfire.

On Sunday, the students took part in a number of sessions on study skills with Mike Conlon. These sessions developed the students’ critical thinking abilities and problem solving skills.

Mr Napier, Assistant Headteacher (Post 16), said: “We believe that our Year 11 students should be given all the information they feel they need to make the correct Post 16 choices for them. The Sixth Form Centre works closely with pupils in Year 11 to ensure they feel confident and well informed ahead of the next stage of their lives.

“Our Post 16 Care Leader, Miss Stott; our Personal Development Leader, Mr Beale; the sixth form teaching staff; and I continuously deliver a range of initiatives designed to support and guide our Year 11 students through the decision-making process. We are also always available should students wish to gain additional advice or resources.”
