Many pupils started the final week of the school year with a day trip in the North West. Hundreds of students spent the day at the Blackpool Pleasure Beach or the Trafford Centre whilst others visited the beautiful Beacon Fell. The trips were part of a Rewards scheme for pupils who have worked hard throughout the academic year.

Poseidon College Leader Mr Davidson said: “The Reward trips are in place so that we can acknowledge the dedication of our students throughout the school year. The trips are always popular and provide a great opportunity for our pupils to enjoy themselves with their friends.”

The final week of term continued with a Maths Challenge Day. Students in Year 10 took part in a range of fun activities designed to help them develop their logic and problem solving skills. The activities included; racing on a giant inflatable obstacle course, creating origami and challenging each other to giant Jenga games.

Director of Learning for the Logic cluster, Mrs Taylor, said: “Each task aimed to help pupils enhance their understanding of maths. As a cluster we wanted to use a variety of learning methods and activities so that students could develop their skills in new and innovative ways.”

Over in the Creativity cluster students were also focused on new learnings. Year 9 pupils have been finding out all about 'Macbeth' as it is a play they will study over the next academic year. The students were treated to a live performance from a talented theatre group before taking part in interactive workshops and hot seating role play.

Assistant Director of Learning for the Creativity cluster, Ms Fry, said: “Seeing MacBeth performed live before beginning to study the play next year will no doubt be of huge benefit to the Year 9 students. The production was fantastic. The students definitely got a lot from it and the other activities which took place throughout the day.”
