On Wednesday 24 June, the school hosted the annual Induction evening for year 6 students who are preparing to join the school in the Autumn. Parents, carers and new students made their way through bustling crowds approaching eagerly to buy school essentials and queued to find which out of the six colleges their son or daughter have been placed in;  Mercury, Apollo, Juno, Poseidon, Minerva orCeres. Students who have older siblings are typically placed in the same college.

The school’s Allen Wood Studio filled-up quickly with students waiting to meet their College Leader of the Headteacher.  This year the school received more applications than ever so this made for a very busy evening.  Assistant Headteacher Ms McKeon said:

“It has been great to see so many students this evening excited about joining us in September.  We’ve been working hard to help make the transition process as smooth as possible with a series of events taken place for these students over year 5 and year 6.

“We hope that this evening has provided an opportunity for parents and carers to find out any final pieces of information about joining us next term.”

Each college ran a short session to hear about life at the school and what their children would expect starting in September. Presentations told the students what the school was expecting of them in particular the standards, the uniform and the systems they work by. After the presentation students had the opportunity to meet their new mentor and other students in the mentor group

Year 10 student, Jess Curtis, told us why Carr Hill is the place to be:

“I think Carr Hill has an amazing atmosphere which is displayed by both the students and staff. The teachers are in particular very helpful.”

During his speech Mr Waller reminded parents and carers that “Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire”, and explained the wealth of opportunities available to students during their time at the school.

Niamh and Sammy are currently students at Kirkham and Wesham Primary School told us that their looking forward to start their journey at Carr Hill High School:

Niamh said: “I am very excited to start Carr Hill High School, as there are many people to meet. I am looking forward to studying art when I join.”

Sammy said: “I am very excited to join the school. I am looking forward to studying music and drama as they will mix well with my personality. It should be very beneficial!”
