Carr Hill High School students arrived in style to attend their Celebration of Achievement Prom at the Hilton Hotel in Blackpool.

They began arriving from 6.30 in a variety of vehicles much to the appreciation of the crowd of parents and staff who had gathered to watch their arrival.  A Rolls Royce, Bentleys and classic cars competed with a lorry, a John Deere tractor and a selection of VW Camper vans for the most exciting arrival at this year’s event.

The girls were dressed to impress in a dazzling display of elegant gowns in many different colours and styles.  A lot of planning and preparation had clearly gone into the outfits with the girls wearing both short and long dresses adorned with beading, lace and sparkles.  Dresses were paired with some death defying heels and glamorous hair and nails.  Not to be out done the boys completed the picture in an array of sharp suits and ties with a variety of colours and styles.

All the students posed with the sea as a back drop for a group photo to start the evening before moving into the hotel.  Everyone enjoyed a mocktail in the large ballroom which was attractively decorated with white and silver balloons.  Students were clearly enjoying themselves as they posed for photos and chatted with friends and teachers before sitting down to enjoy a three course dinner.  As the DJ provided a soundtrack to the evening students were entertained by a magician who moved between the tables showing off his amazing tricks.

One of the highlights of the evening was the Student Awards presented by the Prom Committee.  Jack, Ellie and Elise provided an amusing commentary as they presented a variety of awards ranging from ‘most likely to go to the Olympics’ to a predication for a future Prime Minister.  All of the students appreciated the effort that the committee had put into this part of the evening and there were lots of cheers and applause for the 26 awards.  Ms McKeon, Ms England, Miss Webster and Mr Davidson had a pleasant surprise as they were presented with an award of appreciation from year 11.

After dinner, students moved on to the dance floor or out to the sitting area to talk.  A photo booth provided more entertainment for the students as they had the chance to pose with friends and create memories of the event.  The students were joined by many members of staff as everyone enjoyed the more relaxed environment and the opportunity to celebrate after the stress and hard work of the exams.

Assistant Headteacher Ms Hilton-Peet said “Having worked closely alongside year 11 over the past year the Prom was a chance to let their hair down after the huge amount of hard work that has been completed over the months and years.

The Prom Committee worked hard on the awards which were presented in an organised and professional manner.

I look forward to August 20th when you will be officially rewarded for all your efforts.”
