As part of Unit 149 of the course the Carr Hill students learnt all about how to sharpen and care for their tools. They then had a tour of the area where all the tools and a wide range of lawn movers are kept and maintained.

Horticultural teacher, Ms Ashton, took the students to the college with Personal Development Officer, Mr Beale. Ms Ashton said: “The Unit 149 assessment was a very hands on practical assignment and the pupils showed a great maturity when dealing with some of the more dangerous equipment. They all completed the unit with flying colours answering the questions correctly and following all relevant procedures.”

After the assessment and tour the students got straight to work on titivating the gardens they had built, they replaced and filled borders with fresh flowers, plants and mulch. They cleaned the paved area and tidied everything away, ensuring the gardens remain pristine for college visitors.

When the students returned to school they were greeted with a large donation from B&Q. The company has donated lots of free plants and vegetables. The Horticultural students will be planting the items this week.
