A group of Year 9 and Year 10 students have been awarded certificates for taking part in the Alan Turing Cryptography Competition.

The competition is run through the University of Manchester and involved students having to complete several chapter of a story. Each week a chapter was released and students had to work to solve it. This involved using their knowledge of codes and ciphers, the quicker the students solved the chapter, the more points they received.

Year 9 student Brandon said: “The challenge was fun and interesting. Each week the chapter was harder and became more challenging.”

Fellow Year 9 Jack added: “I take part in a lot of the different Maths challenges and always learn something new.”

Maths teacher Mrs Potts said: “The teams worked extremely hard and never gave up! I’m very proud of what they have achieved.”

Well done to the Year 9 team – Jack, Sam, Chris and Brandon and  the Year 10 team – Louis, Sarah, Owen and Mark.
