Members of Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Dance Academy were left impressed and inspired following a dance workshop delivered by professional dancer and actor, Ashley Lloyd.

Ashely, who has appeared in musical theatre shows including Billy Elliot the musical and Mamma Mia, came to the school to deliver a 90 minute workshop. Ashley taught the students a routine and then took them through a casting designed to show them how the audition and selection process works. Ashely provided constructive criticism and advice to help the school’s academy members develop their existing skills and maximise their strengths.

Dance Academy Vice Captain and year 12 student Maiya took part in the workshop. Maiya, who plans to teach dance one day, said: “The workshop was really good. It was fast paced and full of energy; I felt like we learnt a lot in a short space of time. It wasn’t what I was expecting, in a good way, and learning more about the audition process was interesting.”

Ashley, who was born in Blackpool and now works all over the world, said: “It’s been amazing to work with this group of students. They have been so willing to learn and I can see definite potential. It’s not an easy industry to break into but if they are committed and work hard there is no reason some of these girls could not establish a career in the business.”

Dance teacher Miss O’Connor said: “The workshop was a huge success. It was different and exciting and I know that the academy students benefited from it in many ways. I plan to offer more workshops like this in the near future.“
