The school showcased the best of its GCSE and BTEC music students during an evening enjoyed by parents, carers, staff and fellow pupils.

The event featured performances of a number of recent pop hits alongside more classic and traditional pieces of music. Over twenty students took to the stage during the performance, some choosing to perform as a solo artist whilst others performed in pairs or as a group.

Pupils wowed the audience with their vocal abilities as well as their instrumental talents creating a a real variety of performances across the evening.

Miss Dawson was one of the members of staff involved in organising the event. She said: “We decided to hold this particular evening as live music features heavily on both courses; at GCSE it is the performance that is marked and BTEC students make recordings. In addition, we felt it was important that students who have opted to study music have opportunities to perform.”

Year 10 student Sarah performed Arrival of the Queen of Sheba by Handel arr.Wye on the flute. She said: “It was the first time I have performed this piece of music. I’ve been rehearsing it for months as it is a challenging piece to play. I like performing at school events because every performance you do makes you feel less nervous and more confident.”

Miss Dawson added: “The evening was a huge success and enjoyed by all who came to watch. I would like to thank all the students involved from those who performed to those who managed the production and back stage elements of the show. I hope this is the first of many GCSE and BTEC Music Performance evenings.”
