Carr Hill’s Year 8 Sportshall Athletics team has come runner up in a county wide competition.

The nine strong team consists of Ethan, Dylan, Taylor, Brad, Jack, Jack, Jake, Oli and Scott. The pupils earned their place at the finals having won the Fylde heat earlier this year. The students came in a close second place at the competition and displayed some imposing group and individual performances.

The team can boast the following achievements; 4-Lap Winner – Ethan Tibbs, 8-Lap Paarlauf Winners – Ethan Tibbs and Dylan Williams, 4 x 2-Lap Relay Winners – Ethan Tibbs, Dylan Williams, Brad Parsons and Taylor Stock, Shot Putt Winner - Dylan Williams, Speed Bounce Winner – Jack Tickle, Vertical Jump Winner – Ethan Tibbs. With this impressive list of achievements it’s not hard to see how the team managed to score enough points to earn themselves a top two position.

Speed Bounce winner Jack managed 89 Bounces in 30 seconds and beat 25 other competitors. He said: “I really enjoyed the atmosphere at the final. There was a crowd of students who were cheering and that was motivating. When I saw the other students competing in the Speed Bounce event I knew it would be hard to win but I just did my best.”

Fellow student Dylan won the Shot Putt, throwing 10.0m, and was part of the winning 8-Lap Paarlauf and 4 x 2-Lap Relay teams. Dylan said: “I tried to keep focused throughout the competition which I think helped me to do well. I thought we would finish in a good position even though there were lots of strong teams.”

PE teacher Mr Doughty took the students to the competition. He said: “The pupils were absolutely superb throughout the competition. To finish second in the county is a great achievement and they should all be proud of their efforts.”
