A group of pupils have taken part in a series of after school art workshops designed to help them develop their existing artistic skills.

The five week course, which has run previously this academic year, focuses on the theme of lettering. Pupils have had the opportunity to create their own graffiti tags and individualise copies of famous artwork and images of well-known landmarks.

This series of workshops have been open to Year 8 students whilst the previous workshops were available to Year 7 pupils. The students have been using traditional art equipment alongside image editing software such as Photoshop.  Year 8 Zach has been at each of the sessions. He said: “I think the workshops have helped to improve my skills. I feel like I’m much better at art now and I’ve had fun.”

Fellow Year 8 Jordan said: “I liked making our own name tags in graffiti style writing because we could make the tag unique to our personality. I like football so my name tag featured footballs.”

Year 8 pupil Leah says she likes coming to the workshops as they are fun and help improve her skills.  She said: “Adapting the famous artwork has been my favourite thing about the workshops. I’ve taken my work home to show my family and they have been really impressed with what I have been creating.”

Art teacher Mrs Williams runs the workshops. She said: “This is the second workshop of this type that the school has delivered and we hope to be able to offer many more in the future. The workshops give our pupils the opportunity to cover different topics and acquire new skills which can be used to enhance their learning and development within lessons. It is also a great opportunity to have fun and be creative.”
