Report by Sporting Elite Media Officer Jack

On Wednesday 11th March Carr Hill got ready to play their last match of the season against Cheadle Hulme, a team Carr Hill had defeated away in October 2014. The starting team was Hannah (GS), Zoe (GA), Ellie (WA), Nicole (C), Alice (WD), Helen (GD) and Emily (GK). The substitutes were Elizabeth, Elise, Amy and Lauryn.

Within minutes of the first quarter beginning Zoe had three chances to score and did so on her third attempt. Following Carr Hill’s goal Cheadle Hulme gained some momentum and scored two goals. Even though Cheadle Hulme were leading in points, Helen and Emily gave their all to offset the other team. However Cheadle Hulme managed to gain the ball and score again.

Straight after Nicole passed a brilliant ball to Zoe, helping her score her second goal but Cheadle Hulme quickly secured another goal despite Helen’s brilliant defending. Carr Hill didn’t waste any time as Zoe scored another. From then on it went back and forth consistently before Cheadle Hulme scored again. Carr Hill had to do something and Helen quickly got the ball to Hannah who scored a sensational goal, making the score 4-5. Cheadle Hulme were a little quicker in pace and even with superb defending from Helen and Emily, the opposition still manage to score another goal. Ellie and Nicole helped the team get the ball up to Zoe, helping her secure another goal. Therefore ending the first quarter 6-7 to Cheadle Hulme.

Carr Hill got straight into the second quarter and it was only seconds before Zoe scored a smashing goal that evened the score. The team was dominant for a while, enabling two further goals to be scored by Zoe, but Cheadle Hulme didn’t give up easily and scored another goal too. Nicole used her long throws to get the ball down to Zoe, who scored again. Although the Carr Hill team was on form Cheadle Hulme took control and scored five goals in total bringing the score to 10-14 and ending the quarter.

As the third quarter began Carr remained upbeat. Unfortunately, Cheadle Hulme managed to score the first goal of the quarter but Zoe and Helen were working well to stop Cheadle Hulme from getting past again. Another goal to Cheadle Hulme was quickly followed by a goal from Zoe. Cheadle Hulme dominated the rest of the quarter by scoring five further goals. Carr Hill remained positive and more goals from both teams were gained making the score 13-23.

Mrs Carroll substituted Hannah for Year 11 Amy as the final quarter began. Hannah had played brilliantly as GS and now it was time for Amy to make an impression. It was an action packed start to the fourth quarter with excellent skills shown by Nicole, Alice, Ellie and Helen. Carr Hill came close to scoring twice, once by Zoe and once by Amy, but didn’t. The team kept it together and didn’t give up! However, Cheadle Hulme managed to score another goal but a goal from Amy quickly followed. The match went back to Cheadle who scored six additional goals, making the score 14-30.

Although Carr Hill didn’t win their last match of the season the players never gave up. Well done Carr Hill and well done on a successful season. The player of the match given by Cheadle Hulme was Amy, who played a dominant fourth quarter. The player of the match given by Mrs Carroll went to Alice, who delivered a solid match performance. Well done to Amy and Alice and to everyone in the team!

Year 11 and player of the match, Amy said: “I have enjoyed representing Carr Hill this academic year. To receive player of the match was a surprise as I have never got it before.”
