Carr Hill pupils have been celebrating World Book Day with a week of reading related activities. The aim of the week was to get everyone involved in reading and talking about how much they enjoy a good book!

The week kicked off with students sharing extracts from their own creative writing work amongst staff and fellow pupils in the Hub. As the week progressed pupils were invited to take part in ‘Starbooks’ which was an opportunity to enjoy hot chocolate and cake whilst discussing books. Throughout the week pupils were also encouraged to tweet selfies with their favourite book for the chance to win high street vouchers.

On Thursday 5th March, which was World Book Day, the whole school took part in ERIC ( Everyone Reads in Class) time at the start of each lesson. Year 7, 8 and 9 students we also able to pick up a £1 book voucher from their English teacher.

Year 8 student Nyah, who regularly writes her own poetry and short stories,  took part in a number of the activities throughout the week. She said: “I love books and through reading I have learnt loads of new vocabulary.  I especially like mystery themed books like Harry Potter and Maze Runner.”

Year 7 student Austin was also involved in some of the weeks events. He said: “Reading is fun and something you can do any time. I like reading adventure themed books and I think they help me learn new things.”

English teacher Ms Fry was part of a team of staff who organised the series of activities. She said: “World Book Day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate how much we enjoy reading. I’m delighted that our students have shared their own written work with us as well as their favourite books and it’s wonderful that so many pupils and staff have been involved with the activities throughout the week.”
