Upon landing in New York Carr Hill students were greeted with a winter wonderland as the city was covered in a blanket of snow.

The pupils headed straight to Manhattan which was their base for the duration of the trip. After wrapping up warm students and staff set off to explore, following their packed itinerary over the course of four days and three nights.

Students gained an invaluable insight into a different culture whilst visiting some of the world’s most famous landmarks including the Empire State Building, the 9/11 Memorial Museum, Liberty Island and Ellis Island.

College Leader Mr Johnstone was amongst a number of staff members who accompanied the students on the trip. He said: “The pupils had an incredible time and certainly took the opportunity to learn, and take in, as much as they could. There is so much to see and we made every effort to show students as much of the city as possible.”

Having spent the days traveling around Manhattan the evenings were filled with trips to many of the city’s most famous eateries. Students sampled authentic American food at restaurants such as the famous Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant and Planet Hollywood.

Year 11 student Jess has been on the school NYC trip two years’ running. Jess said: “This trip was completely different from the one before. For example, I got to see the 9/11 Memorial Museum this time. I don’t usually visit museums but I found this one very interesting.”

For Year 10 pupil Joe it was his first visit to the city. He said: “In some ways it was what I was expecting and in other ways it wasn’t. Personally the view from the Empire State Building was a highlight for me along with Times Square. I definitely want to come back to New York one day.”

Details of next year’s New York City trip have already been released. The trip is open to current Year 9, 10 and 11 students and will take place between 17th and 22nd February 2016. The cost of the trip is £899 and letters are available from Mr Johnstone in the College Leaders’ Office. All reply slips and medical forms need to be returned by Wednesday 25th March 2015.
