Once again family, friends and staff of Carr Hill students have been impressed with the school’s annual Gym and Dance Display.

The show is already a key event in the school calendar and continues to grow in popularity every year.  Almost 150 students, across all seven year groups, took part in the display which was shown over two evenings to meet with ticket demand and ensure as many pupils as possible could take part.

The display featured a variety of performances ranging from a South African inspired routine delivered by the Dance Academy students to the theme of the Spirit of Langa to a tap dance sequence to Taylor Swifts Shake It Off brought to life by students Kate and Lauren. Guests also enjoyed a range of gym and dance themed performances to well-known songs such as Sia’s ‘Chandelier’, Take That’s ‘Rule The World’ and Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud’.

Mr and Mrs Jackson were amongst the guests in the audience and had come to watch their granddaughter, and year 8 student, Megan. Mrs Jackson said: “We really enjoyed the show. We came last year and have been impressed, once again, at the standard of the performances.”

Fellow audience members Mr and Mrs Clarke had come to see their Year 8 daughter in the production. Mrs Clarke said: “The show has been fantastic. It’s particularly interesting to watch the pieces which have been prepared for GCSE exam work as it gives us an idea of what to expect if our daughter goes on to study dance as a GCSE in a few years.”

Dance teacher Miss O’Connor is responsible for organising the annual production. She said: “I would like to thank absolutely everyone involved in making this production a success. So many students contribute to this event from the performers to the backstage crew. Once again I’ve been overwhelmed by the dedication of our students as well as their creative ability and drive. Each year the display continues to get better and better and it is a pleasure to be a part of such a thriving event.

“I would also like to thank the students’ family, friends and teachers who came to support the display. The school hall was packed both evenings and it really means a lot to myself and the pupils that the event is so well supported.”
