As the school got ready to close for the half term break a group of students and staff prepared to travel to Austria to spend their half term break on the slopes.

22 pupils and three staff members made the journey to Bad Ischl, Austria  on Friday 13th February leaving at midday. The duration of the trip was six days and pupils had the opportunity to ski in the Austrian sun each day. During the evenings students were able to enjoy activities such as  curling, ten pin bowling, swimming and tobogganing. The Carr Hill group slept in a local Youth Hostel close to the slopes and enjoyed great weather conditions throughout the trip.

Pupils do not need to have any prior skiing experience and can go on the trip as a complete beginner as instructors are on hand to offer training.  Year 13 student, Hannah, first went skiing with the school when she was in Year 8. Hannah said: “I had not skied before going away with the school but I quickly discovered how much fun it is. I have been on the trip three times now and every year I improved and learn more things like how to do jumps.”

Year 11 student Leigh had never been skiing before but decided to go on the trip following her older brother’s recommendation. Leigh said: “I found that I picked up the skiing techniques quickly and I definitely want to go again. I didn’t know half the students who were on the trip with me but by the end we were all getting on well.”

Ceres College Leader Miss Coulthard was one of the members of staff on the trip. She said: “The ski trip has been popular amongst students for a number of years. We find that the extra-curricular opportunity gives pupils the chance to experience a different culture, develop their skills in a sport they are interested in and build new friendships with fellow students.

“All the pupils were incredibly well behaved and helpful throughout the trip. It was a pleasure to spend the week with such a great group of young people.”
