The Gym and Dance Display is one of Carr Hill’s annual events and it returns on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th February 2015. Before the production takes place teachers of the Expression Cluster have to decide who will be performing during the two night event via an audition process.

On Thursday 12th February 2015, Carr Hill students took centre stage in the school hall to audition in front of teachers, Mrs Carroll and Miss O’Connor, and members of the Dance Academy. Pupils in the Dance Academy have already gained their place in the show and will perform a number of times throughout the evening. Sia’s ‘Chandelier’ and ‘With You,’ which they performed at the Wyre and Fylde Dance Festival, are just a few of the choreographed routines the academy students will deliver as part of the production.

All non-academy members are required to audition if they would like a take part in the event. First up to audition this year was Year 10 student, Ella-Grace. Ella has already shown she is a natural performer having appeared in ITV soap opera Coronation Street, where she played Grace Piper. During the Gym and Dance auditions she proved herself to be a standout performer. Her dance routine was faultless and on point. It included a range of different dance styles and was fast paced.

After a brilliant performance from Ella, Year 11’s, Hannah, Jess, Jack and Hannah’s younger brother, Scott, were next on and it was a great follow-up. The group delivered an energetic gym and dance routine full of spirit. The chemistry between the students during the routine was clear as they all supported one another as they completed risky moves.

After an amazing start to the auditions it only got better. Next on were students Danielle and Sydney and they smashed it! They were followed by the first Year 7s to take the stage, duo Alice and Tara. They provided an emotional and breath-taking performance which stunned the whole audience. A group of Year 9s were next on and every one of the performers did an excellent job.

The next solo dancer was eager Year 7 student Paige, who delivered an impressive performance. Following Paige was another group of Year 7s. They were great and worked well as a group. Harriet and Shauna were next and they delivered a faultless performance to the recent number one single Uptown Funk. The next group up included members with painted faces. This performance was very original and told a different story from all the other routines performed so far.

Students Mollie and Maise were up next and told a heart wrenching story to Sia’s Elastic Heart. It was another emotional performance that captivated the audience. Both of the performers put their heart and soul into it.  Year 10 Lauren and Year 9 Kate, ensured the auditions ended on a high with something very original as they tap danced to Taylor Swift’s hit Shake it off. Their performance was unique and an absolutely fantastic way to end the auditions. Well done to everyone who auditioned.
