Almost 100 Carr Hill students travelled to The Octagon Theatre in Bolton to watch an adaptation of the famous play A View from the Bridge.

First staged in 1955 the play was written by renowned American playwright Arthur Miller. Students will need to write about live theatre in their examinations so the trip has proven an invaluable opportunity for them.

The play is set in an Italian American neighbourhood near Brooklyn Bridge in New York and has long formed a part of the curriculum for English and Drama. Year 11 students Rowan and Jack were amongst those who went to see the play.

Rowan said: “The play was amazing and the actors were incredible. Going to see the play has helped my understanding of facial expressions, stage directions and much more. I’m going to go to lots more productions in the future.”

Fellow pupil Jack was equally impressed. He said: “I have enjoyed studying the play in both English and Drama lessons but seeing it performed just made it seem more real.”

Ms England, teacher of English, organised the trip. She said: “Stage productions bring a play to life in a way which can’t be portrayed via TV or film. This is why I was so keen for students to experience this. Being in a theatre is also a great experience and something all young people should have the opportunity to enjoy.

“The production has really got the students thinking and talking about the play in a different way. I think watching this production and the learnings we have taken away from it will prove invaluable when it comes to examinations.”
