A group of Year 10 and 11 students will spend part of their half term on the other side of the world.

40 pupils are ready to jet off to New York on an exciting trip designed to give students an insight into a different culture and the opportunity to experience and learn about some of the world’s most famous landmarks.

The pupils will spend four days and three nights in the city and will stay in a central location. Staff have ensured that every day and evening is packed with things to do. Students will experience the Empire State Building, the 9/11 Memorial Museum, Liberty Island and Ellis Island and a Downtown Manhattan Walking Tour.

With so much sightseeing planned staff have made sure that the students will also eat well. Evening plans include trips to the famous Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant and Planet Hollywood.

For Year 10 student Joe this will be his first trip to New York. He said: “I’m curious to see what the city is like. I’m looking forward to seeing the empire state building in particular and just experiencing how different New York is to the UK.”

Year 11 pupil Jess joined the school on the 2014 trip but enjoyed it so much she is going back again this year. Jess said: “I really liked it last year. It is the best school trip I’ve ever been on as you get to see so much. I wanted to go back again because this year there are different sights on the itinerary so it means I can see even more of the city.”

Mr Johnstone is one of a number of staff members who have been involved in organising the trip. He said: “This trip has been running for a number of years and continues to be very culturally beneficial to our students. New York is such a diverse and interesting place with so many significant landmarks. It is great to have the opportunity to share these things with our pupils.”
